Who Can Shaheena Help?

Children & Adolescents

With the ever-evolving challenges that children and youth face today, Shaheena has chosen to focus her practice on this crucial and underserved area of mental health. In her work she creates a non-judgemental and empathetic environment that offers the flexibility and security for children and youth to thrive in and succeed.

Parenting

Shaheena works closely with parents, guardians, caregivers, and teachers to provide helpful strategies and recommendations to better be able to help the child manage complex emotions, redirect unwanted behaviours, reward achievements, and create a healthy home environment that nurtures compassion, empathy, trust, and respect.

Families

Working with families in a number of settings, Shaheena has widespread experience with home/family life, socialization, and academic settings. With this well-rounded background, Shaheena understands the impact that moods, behaviours, and relationships have on the overall functioning and inclusion of children, youth, and their families.

Psycho-educational Assessments

In addition to Counselling and Psychotherapy, Shaheena also conducts psycho-educational assessments to determine the nature and extent of a child's learning challenges. This includes evaluating how he or she learns best, what concepts are difficult for them to understand, and how that information should be presented at home and in school. The assessment gives teachers an idea of what might be most helpful for their student and their classroom activities, including accommodations that could be made for them to better succeed.
